Julie Sonnemann

Julie Sonnemann is the former Deputy Program Director of Education at the Grattan Institute, an independent think tank in Melbourne. She has an extensive background in school education reform, and has co-authored several high-profile reports on effective teaching, professional learning, school funding and educational disadvantage. Julie has worked in senior advisory roles in government and consulting. She has researched high performing education systems in East Asia and also consulted to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris. Julie began her career at the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
Julie is currently a board director of The Song Room, a not-for-profit organisation providing arts programs in disadvantaged schools, as well as a Director of the Ochre Foundation which provides free curriculum resources across Australia. She is an economist by training, and holds a Masters of Public Policy from The University of Melbourne.
